1. What is My Case Manager?

   My Case Manager (MCM) is an application that allows you to see current information about your audit or case. It is part of My Tax Account (MTA), the Wisconsin Department of Revenue's (DOR) free online tax system. See Publication 701, My Case Manager User Guide for more information.

2. What information is available in My Case Manager?

   You can see the following information about your audit or case in MCM:

   • Start date
   • Statute date
   • Audit or case stage
   • Stage begin date
   • Stage due date
   • Estimated completion date
   • Contact information for your department contact and supervisor
   • Outstanding and overdue requests from your department contact
   • Messages exchanged with your department contact
   • Resources (administrative rules, statutes, fact sheets, publications, etc.)
   • Audit or case history
     
     
3. What is the audit or case stage in My Case Manager?

   An audit or case can only have one stage at a time. Audit and case stages include:

   • Waiting on DOR
   • The audit or case is being worked on by a department employee
     
     
   • Waiting on Taxpayer
   • The audit or case is waiting for information or documentation from the taxpayer
     
     
   • Case Complete
   • The audit or case has been completed
     
     
   • Pending Other Audit
   • The audit is waiting on a related audit
     
     
4. What is the Messages tab in My Case Manager?

   The Messages tab is the primary location of MCM Secure Messaging. MCM Secure Messaging is a secure platform for sending and receiving confidential taxpayer information. This easy-to-use system allows records and other information to be sent directly to a department contact and avoids the security risks and size limitations of traditional email.

   Note: The MCM Secure Messaging feature is only available for registered MTA users.

5. What is the Requests tab in My Case Manager?

   The Requests tab shows all the information requests made during the audit or case and whether each request has been satisfied. The status of a request does not necessarily affect the stage of the audit or case.

6. What is the History tab in My Case Manager?

   The History tab shows the stage, including:

   • Total days in audit or case
   • Total days waiting on taxpayer
   • Total days waiting on DOR
   • History of when audit or case changed stages
   • Number of days audit or case remained in each stage
     
     
7. Is My Case Manager available for all audits and cases?

   MCM is available for all audits and most case types.

8. Can I see audit letters and notices in My Case Manager?

   Some letters and notices are available for registered MTA users, but not through MCM. Reach out to your department contact for copies of letters and notices you are unable to locate in MTA.

9. How do I access My Case Manager?

   You can access MCM by logging into MTA. If you are not registered for MTA, see My Tax Account for Personal and Business Use and My Tax Account Registration – Business or My Tax Account Registration - Individual.

   If you do not have a registered MTA profile, you can use the unregistered version of MCM. See Publication 701, My Case Manager User Guide for more information.

10. Can my representative access My Case Manager?

    Yes, your representative can obtain access by registering for MTA with his or her own username and password. Your representative should request access as a third-party preparer for the tax type of the audit. See Third-Party Preparers for more information.
