The Department of Revenue completed the annual file scan for sales and use, local exposition, premier resort, rental vehicle and withholding tax. In November, letters will go to taxpayers who have a filing frequency change for the 2014 tax year.
Sales and Use Tax Filing Frequency Changes and My Tax Account (MTA) Option
Sales & Use Tax filing frequency will change for tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2014. These changes decrease the frequency for which some taxpayers must report and pay to the Wisconsin Department of Revenue. The new filing frequency is determined based on remittances for the year ending October 31, 2013 as follows:
Sales and Use Tax Filing Frequency Threshold Changes for 2014
Early monthly: $3,601 or more/quarter
Monthly: $1,201 - $3,600/quarter
Quarterly: $601 - $1,200/quarter
Annual: $600/year or less
Letters notifying affected taxpayers will go out in November over a two-week period beginning November 11th. We recognize that some taxpayers will want to keep their current, more frequent, filing status. We have made it easy for taxpayers to keep their current filing status by using My Tax Account and selecting the "Keep Filing Frequency" option in your Sales and Use Tax Account. All requests submitted through MTA must be made by December 31, 2013.
Requests to file more frequently for Sales and Use Tax can be honored after January 1, 2014. Send such requests to:
DORRegistration@wisconsin.gov.
Withholding Tax Filing Frequency Thresholds Remain Unchanged
Semi-Monthly: $20,001 or more
Monthly: $2,401 - $20,000
Quarterly: $301 - $2,400
Annual: $300 or less
Requests to file more frequently for withholding can be honored by sending requests to:
DORRegistration@wisconsin.gov.
