New Reject Codes on E-Filed Returns

A taxpayer or preparer who files an individual income tax return through fed/state e-filing either receives an acknowledgement that the return was transmitted or reason(s) why the return was not accepted. DOR rejects certain incorrect returns rather than loading them into WINPAS. The reasons for those rejects, along with other e-filing specifications are available on the Software and Forms Developers page.

Generally, DOR does not add new reject codes after the tax filing season begins. However, because we have found that many vendors are not following the published specifications, the following new reject codes have been added:

  • ERROR REJECT CODE 950 - Schedule I (Adjustment to Convert 2009 FAGI and Itemized Deductions to Amounts Allowable for Wisconsin) is required to report unemployment compensation

  • ERROR REJECT CODE 951 - FAGI reported on Wisconsin return must be adjusted to add back unemployment compensation not taxed on the federal return

  • ERROR REJECT CODE 104 - Filing status is Married Filing Joint so Spouse Last Name cannot be blank
