2007 Act 219 requires the electronic filing of all real estate transfer returns on or after July 1, 2009

- Instructions for completing an eRETR.
- Need assistance with eRETR? See Training/Help for completing, saving and restoring an eRETR.
- Submit a new eRETR.
- Restore a previously saved eRETR.
- View a submitted eRETR (Requires Receipt Number, Value & Name).
- Parcel Formatting Rules by County for Parcel page of eRETR.
Real Estate Transfer Waiver
- Under sec. 77.22(2), Wis. Stats., an individual may request the Department of Revenue (DOR) to waive the requirement to file electronically.
- Obtain a Waiver (PE-500w) from the electronic filing requirement:
- Contact DOR at (608) 266-2149.
- Waiver (PE-500w) completion instructions.
Note: "Filed" means documents received for recording with the Register of Deeds, not the date of the conveyance or post mark. If you do not have an approved waiver, the Register of Deeds will return any paper Return that is received on or after July 1, 2009.
Amended Real Estate Transfer Return (PE-500x)
- An amended Return is ONLY used to correct an error on the Electronic Real Estate Transfer Returns (eRETR) after the document has been recorded by the Register of Deeds. If you need to re-record your deed at the Register of Deeds to correct error(s) on the deed, then you will need to complete a new eRETR in order for you documents to be accepted.
- An amended Return corrects eRETR, paper Returns (PE-500) and the amount of transfer fee.
- File an amended PE-500x for an eRETR, paper return correction, or refund.
- Amended PE-500x Instructions
