Step 1: Obtain a WAMS ID

Each My Tax Account users needs his or her own personal WAMS ID. You will associate the accounting firm to your WAMS ID later. See Self Registration at https://on.wisconsin.gov/WAMS/SelfRegController and click on “Accept” at the bottom of the page.

Step 2: Associate your WAMS ID with your business.

Log into My Tax Account at https://tap.revenue.wi.gov with your WAMS ID. Complete the Customer Access Request using the accounting firm’s information. Third party preparers organized as sole proprietors may use their personal information.

Answer “Yes” to “Are you a Third Party Preparer?”

Step 3: Request Access to client accounts.

After successfully associating your WAMS ID with your accounting firm, log back into My Tax Account using the “Log Back In” link and enter your WAMS ID. To request access to client accounts select “Add 3rd Party Account Access.”

If you select “Add 3rd Party Account Access” you will choose one of the options below.

Option A: Use this option if your client has access to the internet and an e-mail account. Before you may request access to a client account using this option, your client must register his or her business in My Tax Account and add the business accounts (steps 1, 2 & 3 of Registration Quick Start). Once you request access, an e-mail will be sent to your client with the steps needed to grant you access.

Option B: Use this option if your client does not have access to the internet or an e-mail account. In order to pursue this option you must have a Form A-777a signed by your client. Keep this form for your records. It provides you with the client approval to file returns, make payments and access information through My Tax Account. Do not send a copy to the Department.

Step 4: Use the system.

After completing the steps above, you may log into the My Tax Account website, https://tap.revenue.wi.gov, at any time. To file a return and pay an amount due, click on the desired account number listed below the “Authorized Web Accounts” heading.
